Small thoughts on Bristol, knights and a hearty breakfast

Anyone who has read one of my books (yes, there are a few of you) will know that I often use locations where I have lived or worked as story backdrops. The settings for my characters help to define who they are and I hope, provide the reader with a more intimate experience.

The West Country has featured strongly in many of my stories because it was where I spent much of my childhood, particularly in and around the small village of Stour Provost. However there is one city that will always be special and that is Bristol.

To be honest, there are prettier pubs and we do our best to visit as many as we can. But for three grumpy old geezers who have to get up at the crack of dawn to catch the train, the Knights does a fantastic breakfast.  No trip would be quite make the mark if it did not start at the Knights or indeed, finish there for one last drink before we say goodbye for another year.

The Knights Templar features in Harvest of minds, available from Amazon from 13th of March 2017. To find out more, please visit the home page.

Like a lot of people, I have found that the passing years have seen once good friends, drift away for a variety of reasons. But two stayed firmly in touch despite all my best efforts.

We have seen each other married, divorced, move to opposite ends of the globe and back again. However, no matter where we are or what we are doing, we try and meet at least once a year for a few bevvies and a natter and that place is Bristol, or more specifically The Knights Templar pub that sits just behind Bristol station. It was therefore inevitable that it would eventually feature in one of my books.
